The Interface Design and Evaluation Team was split into two major subteams during the past year. A first subteam is focused on evaluation of the user interface and the underlying system functionality from the perspective of users. This subteam has two components, one being at UCSB and the other at University of Colorado, under the direction of Barbara Buttenfield. Although the activities of these two components are highly coordinated, we describe them in separate subsections below. A second subteam, whose activities began in earnest in late 1996, is tasked with the design of a new interface for ADL.
