Current Computing Equipment

The Testbed is supported by four systems, including:

  1. host ``alexandria'', a Digital Alpha/AXP 3000/800 with 256 MB RAM and 40 GB of disk, runs AOLserver version 2.1 (the WP's HTTP server, and the Tcl execution environment for most of the WP's user interface code), as well as the Xerox PARC map rendering engine, which is used by the WP's Map Browser component.
  2. host ``suncity'', a Sun SPARCserver 1000 with 128 MB RAM and 18 GB disk, runs the Illustra version 3.2 DBMS (the WP's catalog and gazetteer server) and 2D Spatial DataBlade (the WP's geographic search engine.) "suncity" also runs an AOLserver proxy server for incoming requests from the WP web server on "alexandria".
  3. host ``taxila'', a Digital AlphaStation 200 4/166 with 96 MB RAM and 12 GB disk, runs Excalibur RetrievalWare version 5.0 (the WP's full-text search engine) and Sybase version 10 (the repository for the master copy of the ADL catalog and gazetteer.)
  4. host ``mojo'', a 120 MHz Pentium/Windows NT system, runs ESRI MapObjects and the Microsoft Internet Information Server, which together implement an alternative map rendering engine for the WP Map Browser.
Additionally, the Testbed includes:
  1. 1 Digital AlphaServer 4100/500 with 2 processors, 2 GB RAM, and a 312 GB disk, running Oracle version 7.2. This is being used to support collection development and research on very large catalogs.
  2. 1 Sun SPARCstation 10 with 2 processors, 96 MB RAM, and 14 GB disk, used to support the Oracle Spatial Data Option (SDO) and other miscellaneous Sun-specific software.
  3. 3 Digital AlphaStation 200 4/166 systems, each with 96 MB RAM and 2 GB disk, used as personal workstations by Implementation Team members.
  4. 2 100 Mhz Pentium / Windows NT systems, each with 16 MB RAM and 2 GB disk, supporting assorted Windows-specific tools (Microsoft Access, Paradigm Plus, etc.) used by the Implementation Team.
