Information and Training Programs for Project Personnel

  1. Testbed Team members attended week-long classes in using and programming the ESRI/Oracle Spatial Database Engine (Redlands, CA) and the Excalibur RetrievalWare text search suite (Washington, DC). (1st Quarter)
  2. Testbed Team members attended week-long classes in using and programming the Excalibur RetrievalWare text search suite (Washington, DC).
  3. Testbed Team members attended week-long classes in using and programming Oracle version 8 (Atlanta, GA).
  4. NIMA/CIO/MITRE presented an all-day Image Access Services (IAS) Programmer's Tutorial at UCSB in October 1996. Several members from the project, including most of the Implementation Team, attended this workshop.
  5. During summer, Norbert Strobel spent 3 months at the IBM T. J. Watson research center working closely with the IBM DL group there on issues related to texture segmentation and wavelets.
  6. Mr. Robert Steinke, a graduate student with the project, spent the Fall Quarter of 1996 as an intern with the Microsoft Bay Area Research Center in San Francisco. He was involved with the terabyte database project (see below) and was involved in developing applications for NT environments. He returned to the project in early 1997.
