Duties: Performs programming and/or systems analysis for the Alexandria Digital Library (ADL) which is currently implemented as a highly integrated set of programs that generate maps, access multiple databases, process user input, and dynamically generate HTML Web pages. Assists the ADL research teams and Principal Investigators explore alternate system architectures and new technologies. Designs and implements new ADL user interfaces (and other ADL system components). Serves as alternate system administrator. Verifies that system meets performance criteria by testing and comparing different designs and products. Provides technical guidance to other research groups on how to merge their work into ADL. Designs, codes, debugs, tests and documents new and existing programs in several different programming languages.

Minimum Requirements: Proven experience in WWW and database application development. Significant programming experience with at least four of the following: Java, C, C++, Perl, Python, and Tcl/TK. Experience designing graphical user interfaces. Experience using and programming geographical information systems and/or other spatial data processing. Familiarity with COBRA and/or object-oriented design and analysis. Ability to work closely with a small software development team. BS in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
