Welcome to the Alexandria Digital Library Catalog Search

The Alexandria Digital Library (ADL) contains more than 15,000 holdings, such as maps, images, and datasets, that are available online for public download over the Internet. The items currently cataloged in ADL are a portion of the holdings of the UCSB's Map and Imagery Laboratory. For information on using the Catalog Search, click here.

Quick Tips for General Catalog Searches:

Using names, such as Goleta, or object type terms, such as Map, in the Words to search for field will find items with Goleta or Map in the title. It will not find all available maps covering Goleta. To find all available maps covering Goleta, draw a bounding box in the map browser to define Geleta and select an Object type of Maps.

We suggest the following ways to search:

  1. Select a region to search on the map and enter pertinent text in the Words to search for.
  2. Select a Feature Type (click Advanced placename search) or Object Type and enter pertinent text in Words to search for.
  3. Or simply enter pertinent text in Words to search for.
  4. Often a simple map search indicates whether we have a information in the catalog for a particular area. If you get too many results, limit the search further.

Quick Tips for Placename Search:

  • The Quick Placename Search is a way to find the geographic coordinate information of a named location. For information on using this feature with the Catalog Search, click here.
  • Searching using with phrases terms like "Santa Barbara, California" will not produce the desired results. You need to center the map on California, then search for "Santa Barbara."
