- Abstract/Summary
- Summary
DRGs (Digital Raster Graphics) are scans of the U.S. Geological Survey's topographic quadrangles; a DRG is composed of a TIFF file and a TIFF World file. TIFF World files are needed to tile adjacent DRGs. For more detailed technical information than what appears in this record, consult series metadata. Files are available both on-line and on computer optical disc (CD-ROM).

- Methodology
Topographic quadrangle is scanned at 400dpi, and colors normalized to 13 RGB (red-green-blue) values. The resulting image is converted to Arc/Info (rev. 7.2.1) grid file; the grid file is descreened, to eliminate scatter and enhance solid fills in areas such as water bodies and forest. The grid file is then registered to the Albers projection, and converted to a .tif image with compression option.

- Note
Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) consists of two files, a TIFF image and a small text file, called a TIFF world file, that georeferences the image. These files may be downloaded individually or bundled together.
CAUTION: Files are relatively large, and depending upon speed of Internet connect may take 20 minutes or more to download.
